The allocation, although meagre, has raised hopes among the community members. The BBMP has also kept aside funds to ensure food and shelter to senior citizens. However, ahead of the budget presentation BJP leaders said Rs 8,994, the total outlay of the budget, is not satisfactory. This is not sufficient for all the corporators to carry out development works in their respective wards. Opposition leader Padmanabha Reddy said, recently, the state government through its Gazette notification had revised the zonal wise property tax as per the sub-registrar value. According to it, property tax in residential areas was fixed at 20 per cent and 25 per cent for commercial buildings. However, recently the BBMP in its recent circular had hiked the property tax up to 75 per cent for residences and up to 179 per cent for commercial in the different zones. This is daylight robbery, he accused. As a mark of protest, the BJP leaders had worn black ribbon while they attended the budget meeting.
