Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-03-23 10:47 Bengaluru: Thanking the state government for allocating over 5,000-crore for Bengaluru in the budget, BBMP Mayor N Manjunath Reddy said the civic body's prime focus would be on garbage management. "We will invite the fresh tender for 151 wards for collection of waste. Waste segregation at source level has reached 35 percent and all the waste is going to processing units. To enhance the collection, the BBMP has put additional 25 garbage compactors which will be inaugurated by the chief minister on Wednesday," he said. RS Sathyanarayana, ruling party leader, BBMP, rubbished the claims of opposition party leader Padmanabha Reddy on palike's finances. "We have brought some stability to the palike's finances which were in doldrums during BJP's rule." He said that countries such as Israel, Netherlands and Denmark had come forward to set up plants to generate electricity from waste. The palike is also in the process for recruiting 4,000 more pourakarmikas, he said. BBMP's plans At present, the palike has 48 compactors, each with a capacity to lift and clear 10 tonnes of waste. Now, an additional 25 compactors will be added with each compactor costing Rs35 lakh.
