CBI arrests five KIA customs officials for collecting bribes

Submitted by alvin on Sat, 2016-03-19 10:14 Bengaluru: Five officials working as superintendent of customs and posted at Import Section of Customs, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, were arrested along with three touts by the CBI, Anti-Corruption Branch, Bengaluru, for collecting bribes.  In a drive conducted by the CBI at the Import Section of Customs, Air India Sats, Air Cargo Complex and Menzies Aviation Bobba Air Cargo Terminal, recently, CBI officials caught five customs officials along with three touts for collecting of bribes from clearing house agents for clearing files for the release of imported goods at the import section terminals.   The CBI search team seized Rs75,000 from the touts who were collecting money on behalf of customs officials. After detaining all customs officials and touts, CBI conducted further searches at the premises resulting in seizure of several records which indicate that the collection of bribes from the clearing house agents has been going on for long time.   Two separate cases were registered against Narasimha Swamy SG, N Sundaram, V Visweswara Bhat, V Prem Kumar, K Somasunder, all superintendents posted at Customs Import Section, KIA.       On the basis of the searches, the accused were arrested on Friday and would be produced before the Special CBI Court, Bengaluru, on Saturday. The CBI has also conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused customs officials.
