Submitted by ammembala on Thu, 2016-02-25 20:27 Bengaluru: Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's proposal to have a comprehensive suburban railway system in Bengaluru in partnership with the Karnataka government has been welcomed by citizens. Speaking to Bfirst.in, several people expressed their happiness over towards the initiative taken by the central government. "We welcome the proposal given by the Minister of Railways in the budget," said Arvind Keerthi, Member of Whitefield Rising, an NGO working in the city. "He has provided hope to the city which has developed leaps and bounds. Also, many people are moving to this city in large numbers. So this project will help in improving public transport." Ravi Shankar Tripati, Senior Manager, Global Vision NGO, said suburban railway was essential for a city like Bengaluru. "Many people come to Bengaluru everyday in search of employment and settle down. So the density of vehicles has increased. If the suburban railway is operational, then the public will benefit enormously. In Mumbai, everyone uses suburban trains as it has many advantages. I am happy over the proposal," he said. Another resident Nitesh G Shah, President, Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor, termed it a "good announcement". "Traffic has been the biggest problem for the public in Bengaluru. This railway project has given hope to the public. Available tracks can be used for the completion of the project," said Nitesh.
