Demanding the protection of constitutional rights of people, the CPI (M), SUCI (C), CPI (ML) and All India Forward Bloc on Thursday said people were suffering due to continuous price rise, unemployment, and utter lack of health facilities. In spite of drastic fall in oil prices, the central government had not bothered to reduce prices in the country. On the contrary railway and bus fares were being constantly hiked. Having come to power with much expectations, the Narendra Modi-led government has miserably failed on all fronts, said the parties and criticised the government for its anti-people and pro-capitalist policies. The Left parties said the government was trying to divert the attention of the people from its failure by trying to divide the country by stoking communal passions with the help of Sangh Parivar. Highlighting the attack on institutions of higher learning, the parties condemned the saga of intimidation, assault on the students of JNU as well as similar undemocratic and intolerant acts at FTII Pune, IIT Chennai, Hyderabad Central University and Jadavpur University. On the JNU row, the parties spoke of the unrelenting hate campaign against the university and its president Kanhaiya Kumar. The police arrested JNU’s Kanhaiya Kumar on a false pretext throwing to winds all canons of democratic values and norms, they added.
