To apply under RTE, your child needs to be 5 years 10 months old

Submitted by Newseditor on Wed, 2016-02-10 17:33 Bengaluru: To become eligible for seats for Standard I under the Right To Education (RTE) quota, a child should have completed 5 years and 10 months, according to a notification issued by the Department of Public Instruction.After a lot of hue and cry over the delay in issuing the notification andannouncement of dates for admissions under the RTE quota, the DPI finally issued the notification on Wednesday.At present, schools in the city admit children who have completed 5 years for Standard I. But under the RTE quota, a child should have completed 5 years and 10 months on June 1 to become eligible for a seat under the quota.As per the notification, students can apply for RTE seats in their neighbourhood schools between February 23 and March 15. On April 6, the first round of seat allotment will be donethrough an online lottery system. Admission process will begin in schools between April 7 and 24.The new guidelinesAccording to the new DPI guidelines, three years and ten months has been fixed as the minimum age to join LKG. To join Standard I, a child should have completed five years and ten months. Children aged six years and ten months can also apply for Standard I under the RTE quota.Ward as the neighbourhoodIn Bengaluru city, a student can apply for a maximum of five seats in any school of his ward,with the DPI considering the whole ward as the neighbourhood.
