They said equality in education has been a pipedream for many Dalits in the country even after 65 years of Independence. They said politicians were insincere and good for only making speeches. Members of the federation said the suicide of Rohith revealed the ugly underbelly of the country’s education system which is rife with caste-based discrimination. They agitating members demanded the resignation of Union Minister Smriti Irani, Bandaru Dattatreya and the sacking of Vice-Chancellor of Hyderabad University, and the withdrawal of in-charge Vice-Chancellor of the university immediately. To create accountability, they wanted V-Cs of universities to be held responsible if any student commits suicide.
