Renowned Kannada writer Sa Shi Marulayya, 85, passes away

Submitted by Newseditor on Fri, 2016-02-05 20:29 Bengaluru: Veteran Kannada writer Sa Shi Marulayya, 85, passed away on Friday morning at Jayadeva Hospital. Marulayya had been hospitalised on Jan 22 for a cardiac problem.Born in Chikkanayakanahalli village, Tumakuru District, Marulayya had served as the professor of Kannada at several colleges in Chamarajanagara, Tumakuru, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Channapattana, and Bengaluru. He had presided over the Kannada Sahitya Parishad from 1995 to 1998 and led the editorial board of Kannada Dictionary. The renowned writer had authored more than 90 books. Marulayya was a recipient of Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Rajyothsava Award, Devaraja Bahadur Award, H Narasimhayya Award among others. His dead body is expected to be handed over to the JSS Hospital, Mysuru, as per his will.
