Hyderabad research scholar suicide case: Bangalore students come out in support of victim

Submitted by Editor on Thu, 2016-01-21 16:22 Bengaluru: Bahujana Vidyarthi Sangha staged a protest on Thursday, urging the Union Government to take action against the people involved in the suicide case of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad University.The protesters claimed that there have been several irregularities across educational institutions, resulting in Dalit students missing out on opportunities to be on par with other students.The protesters demanded both the state and the central government to legislate the job reservations even in the private sector and urged the Karnataka government to solve the issues faced by students living in hostels, which includes lack of good food and basic necessities. They also called for revising the current syllabus followed by the universities, terming them outdated. Stating that a syllabus that is in tune with the contemporary world and relevant to today's employment scenario is the need of the hour, over 300 students from different parts of Bengaluru joined the protest.
