The very efficiency of the BBMP officials has come under the public scanner. The Laggere ward which is in the proximity of industries, is big time pollution-hit due to the release of industrial effluents into the drainage. As you can see in the photographs and video available with BFirst.in, the drainage water is getting contaminated with the chemical waste released by the industries. Speaking to BFirst.in, Narayana Swamy, Laggere Ward Corporator Manjula’s husband said, “This is not something to be taken lightly. The industries located in the neighbourhood ward do not seem to have any concern for the people in my ward. The residents are cursing BBMP for not monitoring the unscientific release of industrial effluents. The chemical waste flowing in the drainage can affect the environment and health of the residents around. I have brought this issue to the notice of Joint Commissioner Veerabhadrappa several times but I am really disappointed by the way he is responding to it. I am tired of reminding him repeatedly in vain”, he added. Speaking to Bfirst.in, Joint Commissioner Veerabhadrappa said, “Yes I have come across the issue. There are few industries who are violating the norms but we are not able to trace them. We will deploy a special task force to identify them and initiate stringent action against the people who release such harmful chemicals to the drainage”.
