Submitted by Subeditor on Tue, 2016-01-12 20:44 Bengaluru: The Pillion riders in Bengaluru may enjoy some air on their faces and free sight in Bengaluru roads only till January 20 but not after that. The Bengaluru Traffic Police is strictly implementing the pillion rider helmet policy from January 21 onwards. Speaking to BFirst.in Additional Commissioner of Police for Traffic, M A Saleem said, “We will be educating the people till the January 20 and thereafter we will start penalising the pillion riders on their failure to wear helmets. We are all set to implement the policy in the city. So we need to create awareness among people before bringing the policy into effect. We are utilizing the social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and others to educate the public regarding it”. Also the same would be communicated through hoardings, brochures and other forms of announcements, he added.The city, on Tuesday, witnessed the drive by the traffic police in full swing. However, Padmanabha Reddy, Opposition Leader, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Plaike said, “This is going to be an unsuccessful policy without the cooperation from the public. It will cause greater problem for the public. So we will stand by public”, he added.
