Submitted by Editor on Sun, 2016-01-03 03:45 Bengaluru: “Objectivity, fairness and transparency rules BBMP's advertisement policy” to ensure action against illegal and absurd forms of advertisement, is what the Bangalore City Corporation boasts of. But ironically, this slogan seems not applicable to employees of BBMP and its union. The BBMP issued a notification through Newspapers in Karnataka on Saturday, to all the illegal advertisers against placing ads in public places. However, a flex banner by BBMP employees wishing their newly elected Director makes a mockery of the said policy. The banner by BBMP employees union which reads, “Thanking all the employees and directors of BBMP for electing the M Raghupathy as the new director of the Employees Union in a meeting conducted on 21 November 2015”, is put up illegally! And the irony is it is within the BBMP premises. The permit required with a prescribed fee has not been obtained by these BBMP babus, BBMP Assistant Commissioner (Advertisement) K Mathai has lamented. The advertiser’s gratitude to the employees and the smiling photos of the union members seem to laugh at the notification published by BBMP against illegal advertisement. A member of the public clicked a photo of this open violation and mailed it to Bfirst.in. The question that arises now is that after BBMP having spent some public money to publish the warning against illegal advertisers why is its eyes shut when the offence has been committed by the insiders. On Saturday morning, BBMP had published its drive against illegal forms of advertisement stating “BBMP has initiated multi-pronged action to stem the proliferation of illegal forms of advertisement. It has also begun reforms to ensure an objective, fair, transparent system for allocation of advertisements rights” The BBMP also has also marked 11 protocols to the citizens through advertisements. But its own employees seem thick skinned about the policy.
