Submitted by Editor on Wed, 2015-12-23 21:24 Bengaluru: Bengalurean M D Sharath is the Cyber Cop of the Year.The Data Security Council of India (DSCI), an initiative set up by NASSCOM has selected Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID) MD Sharat for the Cyber Cop of the year award.“India Cybercop Award” was introduced to recognize and honour police officers who have done the most outstanding work in investigating a cybercrime case.The Jury Panel, after having gone through the shortlisted nominations, selected Sharath, DySP, CID Karnataka. The jury gave due weightage to the use of technology in detecting cases and coordination with the service providers in obtaining information, in conferring the award Sharath.Sharath’s parent organisation, CID Karnataka, has also won the “Award for Excellence in Capacity Building of Police Agencies”.This year DSCI received 46 cases in the Cybercop of the Year category from different states/police organizations. These were collated and scrutinized by the DSCI-PwC team. Of these, three nominations from UP Police, CID Karnataka and Mumbai police were shortlisted and submitted to the eminent jury panel to decide the winner.CID Karnataka has invested significant efforts in creating a dedicated police station housing latest digital forensics tools for dealing with Cybercrime cases and also building capacity of police officers in cybercrime investigation through Cyber forensics training facility.The trophy and certificate was conferred on CID Karnataka on 16th December at the DSCI-NASSCOM Annual Information Security Summit held at New Delhi. Hemant Nimbalkar, DIGP, Economic Offences, CID, Karnataka, received the certificate during the event held at JW Marriott, New Delhi.
