The parents and the owner of the vehicles has to surrender their Driving Licenses and vehicles documents to the Traffic Police which would be sent to the RTO with a recommendation for suspension apart from slapping a huge fine. According to a senior police officer over 100 such cases have been registered across the city since June this year. “We were doing this even in the past during festive seasons and had seized vehicles, In such cases we used to send notices to the parents to attend before court and pay the fine. This time the police is going a step ahead and would arrest the parents and file FIR against them,” Dr. M. A. Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said. Analysing the recent cases, M A Saleem said that majority of the cases reported in the recent past involving minor motorist resulted in fatal accidents. “Under aged boy tend to involve in drag racing and wheeling which not only result in fatal accidents but also pose threat to the fellow motorist. Parents should suggest their children to restrain from such activities,” he added. As per the Karnataka’s High Court verdict which produced in June 2015, if the Minor found riding 2 Wheeler or 4 Wheeler, an FIR would be booked against the parents or guardians of the minor motorist under section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act, followed by fine or jail term up to six months. “The special drive and campaign of the Traffic Police will commence from December 24 and focus on several specific locations identified as vulnerable points for drag racing and wheeling,” he said . This would be apart from drunk driving checks ,” said M A Saleem
