Cop Hits Street Vendor, Netizens Strike Back!

Submitted by Subeditor on Thu, 2015-12-17 18:06 Bengaluru: After a street vendor was allegedly beaten up by a cop on M G Road in Bengaluru, the netizens have taken up a social media campaign to bring the policeman to book and rehabilitate the victim with a permanent shelter. On Thursday morning at 5 am, Ahmed who sells tea and snacks on M G Road regularly was about to start his day when was allegedly attacked by a constable named Shettappa Thalkere of Ulsoor Police station limits. The regular customers of Ahmed who witnessed the incident took pictures of him with his bruised hands and legs and damaged cellphone. In no time, the issue had turned into an online campaign.  A large number of people have been responding to this social media post which has gone viral and a group of enthusiasts are planning to set up a permanent shelter for Ahmed and also get him a trade licence so that his family of five is supported. Dr Dominic Dixon, an activist from Bengaluru and an empathiser of Ahmed has posted, “I will help Ahmed in getting a licence for his shop and some have to lend me a hand in helping him set up a stall,” he said. Venugopal B L, ACP, Ulsoor who was informed of this incident by Bfirst.in assured of taking action against the constable. “I am not aware of the incident but definitely will take immediate action against the constable if found guilty. Also I would request the eye witnesses to boldly come forward and narrate us the incident. This will be of great help in taking a speedy action.”
