Police are on the look out for 4 more accused who are reportedly absconding. It may be recalled that the Merlapadavu Parishioners' Church Feast had turned violent after a youth was assaulted in a clash between two groups over a trivial issue. It is alleged that a group of 15 youth attacked Roshan D'Souza, a resident of Merlapadavu at Neermarga around 12.30 pm on Sunday, while he was returning from St. Joseph's Church after the feast mass. It is learnt that an argument over trivial issue between two groups led to a clash, in which Roshan D'Souza and his friends were attacked. “Three girls from three different communties accompanied by their classmates from Sahyadri Engineering College in Mangaluru were invited for the feast by their Christian classmate. While walking out of the church, a group of youth from Merlapadvu stopped one of the girls wearing a scarf in a manner that is representative of Islam ritual. The girl was questioned for entering the church while her classmates opposed the group. But the angry mob attacked Roshan D’Souza, and Urban D’Souza, a home gaurd who tried to stop the fight,” the police said. A case is registered in Kankanady Rural Police Station and investigations are on.
