Congress has fielded its senior leader and former MLC Pratapchandra Shetty to contest from Dakshina Kannada for the MLC (Local Authority Constituency) elections scheduled to held on December 27. The KPCC’s decision has miffed the former MP Jayaprakash Hegde and senior party worker Bhujanga Shetty, who were hoping to get a chance to contest the election. Expressing displeasure over the party decision, former president of Udupi Zilla Panchayat Bhujanga Shetty has announced that he contest the election as an independent candidate. “I was waiting for over 18 years for a right chance and I have dedicated 38 years of my life for the party. I was waiting for just one chance and party has disappointed me. There was absolutely no need to give ticket to Pratapchandra Shetty, as I was a strong contestant and had a good chance to win,” he said. Meanwhile, former MP from Chikmagalur-Udupi Jayaprakash Hegde, who lost his seat against Shobha Karandlaje of BJP, is reportedly upset by the party decision. According to a senior leader of the party in Udupi, Jayaprakash Hegde was assured of MLC ticket by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, after the former lost in the Lok Sabha polls. “JP Hegde has worked hard for the party. The fact that the party has not given him the ticket has upset not only him but many others in the party.” Meanwhile JDS and BJP have also announced their candidates from Dakshina Kannada. Kota Srinivas Poojary is contesting from BJP while JDS is fielding Prakash Shetty, a fresh face from Bunts community.
