It may be recalled here that the Mangaluru City Corporation had earlier written to deputy commissioner requesting the release of water stored at Kadaba dam to increase water level at the Thumbe vented dam. At Thumbe water level has stood at 5.8 ft on Monday against the maximum level of 13 ft. According to sources, nearly 2 million cubic metres (mcm) of water is available at Disha Hydel Power Project dam across Kumaradhara, a tributary of the Netravathi, near Kadaba in Puttur taluk. One million cubic metres water is suffice to meet the city’s drinking water needs at least for four days, say sources. But there are apprehensions that whether water released from Kadaba dam will reach Thumbe. For, officials believe that water might reach Thumbe dam only if the vented dam across the Kumaradhara in Uppinangady, overflows.
