Submitted by Newseditor on Tue, 2015-12-01 17:44 Sullia: After five years of search, the Dakshina Kannada police have arrested a duo accused in an assault case which had taken place five years ago in Sullia. The arrested have been identified as Muneer B M (26) and Shareef (25) residents of Ajjavar. Sullia. They had allegedly assaulted Shafi (32) and KH Naushir on April 4, 2010 and had escaped to Gulf and remained underground for over five years. Shareef was arrested when he arrived at Kochi Airport on October 10 and produced in court, while Muneer was arrested on Monday, 30 November at Calicut International Airport. Dr Sharanappa, Superintendent of Police Dakshina Kannada said that, "As per the complaint lodged by the victims, on 4 April, 2010, Shafi, a resident of Ajjavar along with Naushir of the same village were riding towards Aivarnadu, when, at around 8 pm, 15 persons riding bikes chased the duo and hit Shafi's bike and assaulted the two with iron rods.” The police then filed a chargesheet against nine of the accused and an arrest warrant was issued against Shareef and Muneer after they failed to appear in the court. During the investigation, it was found that the duo had gone absconding. On 5 May 2014, a lookout notice was issued against them, Sharanappa said.
