Submitted by alvin on Sat, 2016-04-30 13:41 Mangaluru: As many as 127 couples entered into wedlock at the 45th mass marriage ceremony organised by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade at Dharmasthala on Friday.Rituals were conducted at the auspicious Godhooli Lagna at 6.50 in the evening and marriage was held according to each couple’s respective castes. There were about 22 couples belonging to schedule caste besides 19 couples who tied the knot in inter-religion marriage. However, it was Manoj AS of Chikkamagaluru and Divya who stole the limelight as the bride was speech and hearing impaired. The organisers had provided clothes and jewels to brides and bridegrooms.Speaking on the occasion, Muzrai Minister Mahohar Tahsildar hoped that more inter-religious marriages help in eradicating the caste system. He further said that the government provides Rs 50,000 if people belonging to different castes wed in mass marriages. Besides, Rs 3 lakh will be provided to a woman belonging to SC, if she marries a man from another caste and Rs 2 lakh to a man belonging to SC if he marries a woman from different caste.Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade, Hemavati V Heggade, former cricketer Brijesh Patel, D Harshendra Heggade and MLA K Vasant Bangera were present.
