Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-04-29 17:08 Manipal: Noise pollution is a serious health hazard and spreading awareness about it every individual’s responsibility, said Annamalai, Superintendent of Police Udupi District. “Spreading awareness about the effects of noise pollution is not just about enforcing law but it is each individual’s responsibility. If awareness is increased, quality of life can be better,” said the SP at the International Noise Awareness Day held on Wednesday at Suvas Art Gallery in Guddeannadi. Annamalai also distributed the ear protection devices to traffic police personnel in Udupi District as part of the programme. The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Speech and Hearing (School of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University), Suvasa Art Gallery (Guddeangadi), Kalakshetra (Udupi), and Rotary Club (Manipal) As part of the event, an art competition was also held in which 20 students took part. The theme of the competition was “Noise: A Nuisance”. This was followed by a brief lecture on creating awareness about the effects of noise on health and how to control noise by Assistant Professor, Dept. of Speech and Hearing, SOAHS, Bhargavi which was attended by about 200 people from in and around Guddeangadi.
