Prohibitory orders continue in Ullal, cops arrest one

Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-04-27 17:04 Mangaluru: A teenager, Shivaraj alias Shiva (19) has been taken into custody in connection with the attack on a Muslim youth, Ibrahim Hassan, on Monday. Shiva is a resident of Kumpala and an electrician by profession.  Mangaluru city police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar said that Hassan was attacked when he was on his way to fishing port in Mangaluru from Ullal. However, the police are yet to find out whether Shiva was also involved in two other attacks where four other Muslim youths were targetted. Hours after attack on Ibrahim Hassan on Monday, a gang of five miscreants had attacked Safwan (24), Saleem (22) and Nizam (22). On Tuesday, another youth identified as Safwan (27), a resident of Patla, Kallapu, was also allegedly attacked with weapons by about four miscreants when he was coming out of his house. According to the commissioner, all the five victims were innocents with no criminal background. Expressing confidence to nab all the culprits behind the attacks Mr Chandra Sekhar told media persons that a special team had already been formed comprising ACP Kalyan Shetty, CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza, and inspectors of Konaje and Panambur police stations.  “Police have already interrogated around 10 suspects and soon all the accused will be arrested,” he said. As part of precautionary measures, prohibitory orders have been imposed in Ullal between April 26 and 27. Also, security has been intensified with additional deployment of 10 KSRP platoons, 5 ASPs, 8 inspectors, 6 SIs, 10 ASIs besides 260 police personnel.
