Submitted by alvin on Sat, 2016-04-09 18:45 Mangaluru: A young journalist who was on a study tour along with other mediamen to Charmadi Ghat collapsed to death on Friday. Haimad Hussain, 27, is the deceased. Following a holiday for Ugadi festival, Haimad along with other 33 journalists and three guides had planned to Charmady Ghat and do a bit of trekking. As planned they left from Press Club on Friday at 9.30 am in a vehicle. The team alighted from the vehicle at the 10th curve of the ghat and decided to trek with the help of the guides. After walking around 300 mtrs, Haimad and two others decided to take rest as they were tired. They resumed their journey after a while, but Haimad collapsed and fell unconscious. A physician who was also part of their trekking team gave him first-aid but in vain. He was rushed to a private hospital in Belthangady, where he was declared brought dead. After postmortem, the body was handed over to Haimad’s family. Members of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association held a condolence meeting to mourn Haimad’s death. Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation for Haimad’s family members.
