Submitted by alvin on Sat, 2016-04-09 12:20 Manipal: A hands-on workshop on management of patients with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders was conducted to enhance knowledge and skill for staff nurses from government and private hospitals in Manipal and Mangaluru on Friday. The workshop organised by Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal in association with Hemophilia Society, Manipal. Dr Annamma Kurien, Associate Dean, Melaka-Manipal Medical College, and President of Hemophilia Society, Manipal emphasised on the importance of nursing care for patients with bleeding disorders. Dr Poornima Baliga, Dean, KMC, Manipal – chief guest on the occasion – explained the comprehensive health care approach in identification and management of hemophilia. She also emphasized the need for prophylactic care. While interacting with the participants Penny McCarthy, Clinical Nurse Consultant at the Ronald Sawers Hemophilia Centre, Melbourne Australia, said how patients with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders were being managed at Ronald Sawers Hemophilia Centre. Sulochana Associate Professor and Anjaline D’Souza, Assistant Professor, MCON, Manipal demonstrated factor replacement therapy and the participants had hands on training on Implanted Central Venous Device (Port) in the simulation centre.
