Man and foster daughter get lifer for child sacrifice

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-04-01 12:47 Mangaluru: The fourth additional district and sessions court in the city, has awarded life imprisonment to Kamalaksha Purusha (79) and Chandrakala (34), who were found guilty of sacrificing a girl child at Yeyyadi, on Thursday. The accused Chandrakala had befriended Priyanka, daughter of Firan Kumar Jha and Anjali Devi, who had come in search of work from Bihar. While Jha worked as a security guard at an electronics goods outlet, Anjali was a homemaker. They rented a house belonging to Purusha’s brother in Sharbatkatte of Yeyyadi. Chandrakala often took Priyanka to her home. On Dec 10, 2016 too, she took the child to her home but Priyanka did not return. Priyanka’s father Firan Kumar filed a complaint at Kadri police station soon thereafter. During interrogation, Purusha admitted and took the police to the spot where he had sacrificed Priyanka for sorcery rituals. Post-mortem report revealed that the child was strangled and her body bore burn injuries caused by pouring of boiling water. Sessions Court Judge Nerale Veerabhadraiah Bhavani imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Purusha for killing girl child, under IPC section 302 and Rs 10,000 on Chandrakala. Accused Chandrakala is a foster daughter of Purusha. The accused will undergo three years’ rigorous imprisonment.
