Submitted by alvin on Tue, 2016-03-29 16:55 Mangaluru: After nearly nine-long hours of waiting in despair, passengers of Dammam-bound Air India Express flight finally landed at their destinations from Mangaluru. Following a technical glitch in the flight on Monday at 5.30 pm, 137 passengers of the flight were made to wait at the Mangaluru International airport lounge till it was set right. The flight took off only at Tuesday 1.57 am. However, passengers had a harrowing time while waiting at the airport. For, the problem was detected after their check-in process was completed and they had to spend their night at the airport lounge. Earlier, their flight was scheduled to take off at 5.30 pm on Monday. According to JT Radhakrishna, director, Mangaluru International Airport, the technical problem was detected on Monday evening. Nagesh Shetty, Station Manager, Air India, Mangaluru told BFirst.in, “Since spare part was available only in Mumbai, we had to wait for the next Jet Airways flight to land in Mangaluru. It was supposed to land at 12.00 am but it arrived at 12.45 am. We had to fix the glitch in a very short time but we managed.” When asked about a few passengers’ worry on expiry of visa, Shetty said “There were two passengers, who were in a hurry to go as their visa was getting expired. But we were helpless and it is not in our control.” “There was no complaint from any passengers. But 12 passengers cancelled their ticket and four passengers left the airport without giving any reason. There were 9 infants and 128 adult passengers who finally took the flight,” Nagesh Shetty said. The whole waiting time had not only worried the passengers, but also their loved ones who were waiting for them. Shahul Hameed, who works in Saudi Arabia said, “I had to receive my cousin who is coming to Saudi Arabia for the first time. He is coming here on work permit. Since there was no communication from my cousin, I was tensed,” he said. He further said, there were many like him, who were clueless about the whole issue.
