Addressing media persons, Kodijal said, “The administrative officer of Mahalingeshwara temple in Puttur is the Deputy Commissioner. Although he is a Muslim, it is legally right to include his name in the invitation of the temple festival. The fact that people are protesting against this is a sign of rise in intolerance within the district.” He said the glory of the festival would increase if people from all religions celebrate the festival together. “In my area, people of all religions come together and celebrate festivals in harmony,” Kodijal said. Ibrahim said the recent incidents in Dadri lynching in UP and the one in Jharkhand, which saw two cattle traders being murdered, were examples of intolerance in India. “I would like to ask the BJP leaders and the Sangh Parivar, isn’t this an act of terrorism?” Kodijal further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also declared that Islam was a religion of peace. “Hinduism also promotes peace in the Vedas. BJP needs to rectify their tactics and stop promoting communalism,” he added.
