Anti-party statements? What I said helped the Congress in polls: Poojary

Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-02-24 19:51 Mangaluru: Responding to allegations that his anti-party statements had created confusion among party leaders and led to its defeat in DK, senior Congress leader Janardhana Poojary said on the contrary he was trying hard to protect the party through his statements. “Due to my statements and directions, Congress did well in this election,” he said.  At a press conference on Wednesday, the Congress leader also blamed indifference towards people’s problems and lack of coordination among MLAs and ministers in Dakshina Kannada district for the party’s bad performance in in zilla and taluk panchayat polls. Poojary said all district in-charge ministers need to discuss local issues with the every local MLA at least once in a month and rectify them at the earliest. “But district in-charge ministers concentrated only on their own constituencies, which led to the party’s defeat,” said Poojary without naming DK district in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai.  “If you look at the overall picture, Congress has done well in the ZP/TP polls. During the previous ZP polls, the Congress had secured power in six ZPs. However, this time it has increased to 10. Though BJP was power in 12 ZP in the previous election, it has able to secure power in only seven ZP this time,” said Poojary and argued that the same was the case in taluk panchayat polls where “Congress had won in 35 taluks this time, compared with 31 TP it won during the last TP election”. The state government should also listen to the grievances of people in DK district in connection with the controversial Yettinahole project, Poojary said. He declined to comment on the proposed move to join hands with the JD(S) in ZP and TPs.
