Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Rai showed statistics on funds released under UPA and the NDA for MGNREGA. “When UPA government was in power between 2007 and 2013, it released a sum of Rs63.77 crore under MGNREGA for Dakshina Kannada district. However, after NDA voted to power, it has released only Rs3.49 crore in the last two years. On an average, the UPA government had released a total of Rs10 crore a year under the scheme. However, the NDA government released just Rs1.5 crore in the entire year. This clearly shows how the NDA government sidelined Karnataka and neglected zilla panchayats,” he said. Rai also criticised the Centre for failing to keep the promises made prior to the LS polls.
