After two PUC girls students went mysteriously missing in Mangaluru, a Muslim student of a private college was allegedly tortured by police claiming that he had abducted the girls. Police on Tuesday evening arrested Nisar, a second PUC student and resident of Kasaba Bengre in Mangaluru alleging that he had kidnapped two girls. The last time the two girls hailing from Urva Chilimbi and Suratkal were seen was at 2.20pm in the college CCTV footage. After that they vanished mysteriously. They were not carrying cellphones, rendering tracking them even more difficult. Nisar, who had befriended the two girls on social media used to group chat with them often and had shared photos with them. But they had never met scaring for the communal clash. But on Tuesday, to Nisar’s utter surprise, soon after his college hours, Bunder police picked him for questioning later handed over to CCB police team headed by an Inspector who allegedly assaulted him during questioning. BK Imtiyaz Kana, vice president of DYFI Dakshina Kannada unit, said Nisar was innocent but had been taken by police and tortured at the police station for a whole night. First, it was a lady police officer at Bunder police station assaulted Nisar and later CCB inspector Valentine Dsouza and team tortured him insisting that Nisar had kidnapped two girls of private college and have hidden them. “Since Nisar is a Muslim and is friendly with girls from other another religion, he was picked up and tortured in the police station. None bothered to consider his plea of innocence. Now he is physically and psychologically battered, Kana said. Mangaluru Commissioner M Chandra Shekar told Bfirst.in: “No police officers are allowed to assault any and such heinous act is not accepted in department. So far the case of Nisar has not come to me and now I will verify the issue and initiate the actions.” Nisar has been admitted in a private hospital in Mangaluru. It is said that girls who went missing are traced to Kasargod.
