Submitted by Subeditor on Sun, 2015-12-13 19:59 Mangaluru: in a tragic incident a six-year-old child was killed on the spot after she was pinned down under the wheels of a reversing vehicle in Neriya, Belthangady taluk, which is about 80 KM from Mangaluru city on Sunday. The incident took place at 1.30 pm when the victim Swapthi Gowda, a class one student and resident of Thotapady, along with her father and her two sisters were getting ready to board a rented SUV to attend a puja. According to police, the victim’s maternal uncle Perane Gowda was trying to reverse the vehicle. In the process, he knocked down the little girl, pinning her down the rear wheel of the vehicle, where she died on the spot. Swapti’s father Janardhan Gowda, who was holding the other kids, had a narrow escape when he stepped away from the spot. Police have arrested Perane Gowda under Section 304 A of the IPC (causing death by negligence). He is released on bail. A case has been registered in Belthangady police station.
