A bridegroom left the marriage ceremony in a huff after his relatives and the bride’s relatives had a heated exchange over the serving of ‘tasteless’ sambar. But that’s just half the story. Shaken and stirred, the bride’s parents somehow managed to retain their sanity and found an alternative groom for their daughter at the same venue! The astonishing drama unfolded on Sunday. Raju, a resident of Swatantrapalya, Shreeramapuram, and son of Timmayya and Gouramma was set to marry Soumya, a resident of Siddarthanagar, Kunigal, and daughter of Prakash and Soubhagya. The ceremonies of prathama shastra and devatakarya were held on Saturday evening and wedding was scheduled on Sunday at Kollapuradamma Hall in Kunigal. The fight erupted between the two sides over the sambar prepared for the Saturday night dinner. A few relatives of Raju, under the influence of alcohol, are said to have abused the girl’s family for serving them ‘tasteless’ sambar. This led to war of words between the two sides, as a result of which the bridegroom, Raju, supposedly walked out of the venue without informing anyone. The wedding ceremony was to be held at the auspicious hour – between 9:30am to 10:30 am - on Sunday. But when Soumya’s parents found that the bridegroom was missing, a shell-shocked Prakash and Soubhagya started looking for possible bridegrooms to save their face from being blackened by this hard-to-believe turn of events Miraculously, father and mother managed to find an alternative bridegroom for their daughter at the venue itself. The saviour? A man named Govindraju, a resident of Kunigal, and a relative of the family, offered to marry Soumya. Assuring Soumya’s parents of his noble intentions, Govindraju said that he would take good care of their daughter. Having no other choice, the bride’s parents agreed and conducted the marriage ceremony in the same hall. The bride’s parents have lodged a complaint in Kunigal police station against Raju and his family. They want to be compensated for the money spent on preparations for the marriage ceremony, a total Rs 7 lakh. The last word on this amazing episode is yet to be written.
