The doodle shows Mendeleev in the act of setting down the logic of his periodic table, which reportedly came to him in a dream. Mendeleev, who was born on February 8, 1834 in the far west of Russia's Siberia, published his table in 1869 in which he correctly organised the 63 known elements based on their atomic mass. Interestingly, he also critically left gaps for missing elements, correctly predicting that these spaces would be filled by those yet to be discovered. Three of these elements were discovered during his lifetime. However, the seventh row of the table was completed last month. Mendeleev died on February 2, 1907, aged 72, at Saint Petersburg, Russia.
