Women and girls turned up in good number – while some ran for their mother, a few for their children and others for themselves. Sandalwood actor Sanjjanaa Galrani flagged off the event, which was held simultaneously across Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. Being in its second year, the womanathon, was held to create a safe society for women. “Those who could improve the condition of women against sexual violence are actually men and through the marathon we want to encourage men to take up women’s safety issues,” said Dinesh Raj of Quanta-G, the organiser. “Being safe overtakes all other celebration that a woman wants,” adds Nithyashree of Quanta-G. The marathon is our pledge to respect women and help to create a safe society, she added. Proceeds of the marathon would go to Seek Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that strives to empower women through education and their basic rights.
