Diabetes walkathon at Seegehalli and Kannamangala of Whitefield

Submitted by Newseditor on Tue, 2015-11-10 17:08 Bengaluru: A mega Diabetes Walkathon to bring awareness among the residents of Seegehalli and Kannamangala, Whitefield was conducted on Sunday. Organized by Force-GW, a group of volunteers from the local resident associations formed to take up issues based on social causes and build a strong movement to address and provide services like education, health, sanitation in the area. The Walkathon was hugely supported by Rotary Club of Bangalore, Novo Nordisk, Columbia Asia Hospital, Vydehi Medical College and HDFC. The Walkathon began with an Yoga demonstration of simple exercises and was packed with entertainment of a school band and Dollu Kunitha. Doctors in attendance to check the blood sugar levels, and guide participants the need for dietary control and lifestyle changes was led by Force – GW volunteers, family members, Rotarians, celebrities including Reeth Abhraham-Arjuna Award Winner and Star Athlete, Arvind Limbavali, MLA, our District Governor KP Nagesh and local Panchayat members, witnessed approximately 350 students from local schools, 700 adults from the nearby areas, and walked along the highway for 3 Kms, carrying placards, banners spreading information on the silent killer. According to the data available, India is the diabetic capital of the world, and is heading towards a diabetic explosion. Seven crore Indians suffer and 50 percent of them are not even aware of it. Out of those who are aware, only 50 percent take corrective steps. Yoga demo at walkathon Over 399 people attended the event
