KSSM tournament in Abu Dhabi a stupendous success

Submitted by Editor on Mon, 2016-01-25 17:44 Abu Dhabi: Saifah Rikon Friends, Dubai, have won the 26th Koosamma Shambu Shetty Memorial (KSSM) volleyball trophy for men while Bunts Dubai were declared winners of KSSM throwball trophy for men. The Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha hosted the KSSM Throwball and Volleyball Tournament 2016 at Abu Dhabi Indian School Muroor ground in Abu Dhabi on Friday. The tournament is organised every year in memory of the late Koosamma Shambu Shetty, mother of Padmashree Dr BR Shetty, CEO and MD of New Medical Centre. Sarvotham Shetty, President Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha welcomed the teams. Dr BR Shetty, Dr Chandrakumar along with Vijay Mathu, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, SB Shetty, Leo Rodrigues, Lavina Rodrigues, Prema Uday Shankar Shetty, Dolphy Vaz and others inaugurated the tournament by releasing the balloons. Karnataka Sangh–Abu Dhabi, KCO–Abu Dhabi, Bunts Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, Mogaveers UAE, Coastal Friends UAE, Konkans Dubai and CCF–Fujairah participated in the throwball tourney which saw participation from both men and women. Indian Spikers–A, Indian Spikers-B, Smart Plus, Karavali Boys and Saifah Rikon Friends – Dubai participated in the volleyball tournament. Naveen Salian, Satish Shetty, Cynthia, Deepti and Anand (volleyball) were the referees of tournament. Saifah Rikon Friends–Dubai won KSSM volleyball for men while Indian Spikers were the runners up.  Pawan of Indian Spikers was judged as the best striker, while Sajan of Saifah Rikon Friends was declared as the best defender. Siraj of Saifah Rikon was the best all-rounder. Bunts Dubai were declared winners of KSSM throwball for men while Coastal Friends UAE and Mangalore Konkans were emerged as runners-up. Allan of Coastal Friends was judged to be the best striker while Ashlyne of Coastal Friends was judged to be the best defender and Ranjit Shetty of Bunts Dubai the best all-rounder. Karnataka Sangh–Abu Dhabi won KSSM throwball for women.  Bunts Dubai and Mangalore Konkans emerged as the runners up. Smitha Chowta won the title of the best striker, while Shakila Bhandary was declared as the best defender. Neethu Shetty was the best all-rounder. The final matches between ADKS v/s Bunts Dubai (Ladies Throwball), Bunts Dubai v/s Coastal Friends UAE (men’s throw ball) and Indian Spikers-A v/s Saifah Rikon saw nail-biting finishes. The Committee members of Karnataka Sangha, Abu Dhabi, worked hard for the success of this tournament. During the prize distribution ceremony, B R Shetty thanked all committee members of Karnataka Sangh–Abu Dhabi, volunteers and the teams.  He specially thanked CCF Fujairah team for coming all the way from Fujairah.
