Increased Participation of Girls in Education in Karnataka

Submitted by Newseditor on Mon, 2015-11-30 19:16 Bengaluru:As usual girls have proven their ability in primary and secondary education by taking a lead and with increased participation. State has recorded highest number of girl child participation in primary and secondary education and the Muslim girls have taken the first position in participation. Ministry of Human Resource Development's (MHRD) report on District Information System for School Education (DISE) 2014-2015 considering 15,056 primary schools and 4410 high schools of 14 district has highlighted the participation of girl child in schools. According to the DISE, 47.13 percent girl students from general merit category, 46.94 percent from schedule caste, 47.16 percent from scheduled tribe, 48.59 percent from backward class and a 50.91 percent from Muslim community are engaged in primary educational activities. Nearly 49.52 percent from general class, 50.21 percent from schedule caste, 49.05 percent from schedule tribe, 52.02 percent from backward class and 54.80 percent of girl children from Muslim community are actively engaged in secondary educational activities. DISE report also clearly states that the girl students from Muslim community are ahead of any other community with regards to education in State. Compared to other states in India, Karnataka is taking the first place in Muslim girl students’ participation rate in education. Meanwhile, the data also points out that Lakshadweep has 100 percent girl students’ participation from general merit category while Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam, Goa and Telangana have average participation of general merit girl students.
