The student community in the state had become anxious owing to the unscheduled power cuts throughout the day. This reportedly forced the under-secretary to write to the KPTCL asking them not to resort to power cuts from morning 6am to 9pm. Last year, on December 30, power minister DK Shivakumar had promised uninterrupted power supply in the state. But by February, the state was in the midst of another season of load shedding and power cuts.
