The BBMP standing committee for education (BBMP SCE) has sent the proposal to commissioner for the introduction of salwar kameez as uniform. The reason? BBMP SCE chairman K Nagbhushan told media persons that it would ensure safety of girl students. “There are 11 female councillors in the committee, and when they interacted with girl students, students requested to provide salwar kameez has uniform,” said Nagbhushan. “Students informed us that they would feel comfortable while playing and feel safe in public places if salwar kameez is provided as uniform than skirts. So we will be placing this agenda at a special council meeting which will be held on March 9 for approval,” he said. There are around 158 BBMP schools, including 20 PUC colleges, with a strength of around 15,600 children. Around 60 percent of them are girl students, according to the BBMP.
