Classes hit for 5 lk students as guest lecturers stage protest

Submitted by Editor on Mon, 2016-02-15 17:57 Bengaluru: Members belonging to the Government First Grade College Guest Faculty Association on Monday staged a protest demanding special guidelines for guest lecturers working in first grade colleges across the state.At a protest rally held at the Freedom Park in Bengaluru, protesters said lecturers had boycotted classes over demands which included formulation of special resolutions for 14,531 guest lecturers working in 411 government degree colleges. As a result of the boycott, classes have been disrupted for about 5 lakh students, said the striking lecturers. Protestors lamented that the government had not been paying attention to their grievances even though some of them had taught for 15 years. Instead the government has given nod for the appointment of new lecturers for degree colleges, they said.This act of the government is creating a panic among guest lecturers. The government should at least provide Rs25,000 as salary for guest lecturers and maternity leave along with the three months’ salary for female guest lecturers, they said.
