As part of the 80th year celebration of ‘Kannada Sahitya Mandira’ of Hyderabad, “Telanagana Kannada Natakotsava” was held on 19th and 20th December. The first play, “Shuddage”, is a Kannada Sahitya Academy award winning children’s play written by S V Kashyapa, and was performed by Vijayanaga Bimba theater group of Bangalore. The play directed by S V Sushma unveiled the linguistic history and present situation of Kannada language. The unique concept, subject and the execution won hearts of the audience. The second play, “Illa Andre Ide”, is a two women play written by Shylesh Kumar. The play deals with triumphs and trepidations of two diabolically opposite characters performed by Sushma S V and Sneha Kappanna. The accidental meeting of two woman protagonists becomes a soul searching journey and develops into an unusual bonding. With a comic exterior and tragic interior, the play is all about two women's take on life and women sensibilities. “Shathamarkata” is the Kannada adaption of French writer Moliere's ‘The Bourgeois Gentleman’. This play is set in pre-independent era and is a satirical take on the desire of the middle class to rise to aristocracy. Interwoven with this, there is a love story which has to rise against all the odds and the social norms. The play is beautifully adapted to Kannada by director S V Kashyap and performed by “Ranga Chittara” group.
