Miscreants dug a hole through a wall behind a pawn broking shop and escaped with cash and silver articles worth over Rs 5 lakh along with property documents on Thursday night in Kurubarahalli under Basaveshwarnagar police station limits. The burglars even made away with the CCTV camera and the DVR installed at the pawn broking shop. However the police said that the complainant is still unsure of what all has been stolen from the shop. The theft came to light when the owner of the shop Mangilal came to the shop on Friday morning. The police who rushed to the spot and conducted their preliminary investigations suspected that the burglary may have been carried out by someone who knew the pawn broker or someone who has pledged their property with Mangilal, considering the fact that even property documents included the list of stolen items. According to police, the burglars have drilled a hole to gain entry and made away with the valuables. Police believe that the back wall was accessed by the burglars from the house right behind the shop. “Mangilal owns that house as well. However, he has not been able to find tenants for the house and it has been lying empty and since there was nothing valuable in the house, it was kept unlocked,” the police said. “Mangilal is yet to give us the list of items stolen and of the persons to whom he has lent money after keeping their documents to ascertain the exact value of the stolen property,” said a senior police officer investigating the case. A case has been registered at the Basaveshwaranagar police station and further investigations are on.
