The Rajajinagar traffic police said the incident occurred around 2.30 pm when seven members of a family were on the way to their rented accommodation in Kurubarahalli from Yeshwanthapura railway station. The deceased have been identified as autorickshaw driver Shankarappa, 48, and Shivappa Pujar, 45, his wife Mahadevi, daughters Lakshmamma, 9, and Ranjitha, 4. Pujar's sons Mariyappa, 18, Linganna, 17, and daughter Vijayalakshmi, 12, were injured critically and rushed to Nimhans for treatment. The family of Shivappa Pujar hailed from Hasanapura in Jevargi taluk of Kalburgi district in North Karnataka. The traffic police attributed the accident to rash and negligent drive. Driving recklessly, the autorickshaw driver lost control and rammed into a brick-laden lorry parked on the roadside. Three persons were killed on the spot and two more died on the way to hospital. Nagaraj, a family friend and a resident of Hasanapura, said Pujar and his family had migrated to Bengaluru three years ago. The couple and their two sons were working as daily wage labours in the city. The family recently went to their hometown and had returned to Bengaluru on Thursday. “They arrived at Yeshwanthapura railway station and took an autorickshaw to reach their home. But they met with an accident,” Nagaraj said. The bodies of the dead have been shifted to MS Ramaiah Medical College hospital for post-mortem examination. The Rajajinagar police have taken up a case and further probe is underway.
