Submitted by Editor on Mon, 2016-03-21 22:25 Bengaluru: A 31-year-old mathematics lecturer at a private engineering college committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Mathikere on Sunday evening. Police said the deceased Manjula, mother of one-year-old child, took the extreme step over alleged dowry harassment by her husband and his family. The Yeshwanthpur police said that Manjula married Surendra, a private firm employee, about two-and-a-half years ago. The parents of Manjula allege that Surendra and his family had been harassing Manjula for dowry ever since the marriage. She was unable to bear the torture and committed suicide on Sunday evening. Police feel the suicide could have taken place between 6 pm and 8 pm when Manjula had been alone. Based on a complaint filed by Manjula’s parents, a case of dowry harassment was filed against Surendra and his family.
