Explosion at illegal gas refilling unit in Vivekanandanagar; two hurt

Submitted by Editor on Sat, 2016-03-19 21:52 Bengaluru: Panic gripped residents of Vivekananda Nagar after serial explosions at the LPG cylinder refilling unit situated in Katriguppe rattled the area in the early hours of Saturday.As many as 20 cylinders caught fire and led to a serial cylinder blast at an illegal gas filling godown situated near Vidyapeeth Circle in Vivekanandanagar in Kathriguppe in Banshankari III Stage.Luckily, a truck, parked right outside the filling station, acted as a barrier and ensured there was no great damage from the cylinders which went flying out due to explosion at the godown. Though no casualties were reported, two motorcycles and a car parked outside the godown were gutted in the mishap.Residents who rushed out of their house noticed the godown was on fire and alerted fire and emergency control room at around 5.40. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and after a two-hour-long operation, the fire was brought under control .According to the fire and emergency department officials, the illegal gas refilling station, built on a site measuring around 150 square feet, was gutted in the mishap.  Two staff members sustained injuries. Watch video:
