The police have arrested the accused, Deepak. An engineering drop-out, Deepak and Meghana – a second year engineering student – were neighbours and grew close to each other over the years. Since both families knew each other, they agreed for their marriage. However, the marriage plans were put off for some time. Irked over this, Deepak, armed with petrol, climbed atop a nearby building to gain access to the house. He managed to break open the house’s window through which he allegedly poured petrol in the hall and set it afire where Meghana along with her sister Sanjana, 16 was sleeping. He also lit the room, where Meghana’s parents – Nataraj and Anupama – were sleeping. The four of them have sustained burn injuries and are being treated at St John’s Hospital. They are said to be stable. It is said that Deepak had grown restless and had shown his violent streak couple of times. He was sent to his grandparents house in Yelahanka last week, in a bid to pacify him.
