The victim has been identified as Binod, a resident of Shanti Layout and a native of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, who fixed tiles for a living, said Satheesh Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (East division). The police suspect the attacker to be Binod’s friend Mukesh, who arrived in Bengaluru from Gwalior recently. According to the police, the incident occurred around 1.30pm on Monday. Mukesh is suspected to have shot three rounds, twice aiming at Binod’s back while another was fired at the floor. The KR Puram police said that Binod and Mukesh were friends and fixed tiles for a living. Binod had made Bengaluru his home and had been living in the city with his family for the past 10 years while Mukesh made frequent visits to his home town, Gwalior. Around 15 days ago, Mukesh reportedly returned from Gwalior with his friend Manish. The police said that Binod went to meet Mukesh at his rented room on his friend’s request on Monday. The sequence of events during Binod’s visit is unclear. According to the police, Mukesh and Manish locked Binod in their room and shot at him, critically injuring Binod. Later, they fled the scene thinking that Binod had been killed. “We do not know the reason behind the attack. The reason will be known if we nab the accused or if Binod recovers and gives a statement,” a senior police officer said. DCP Satheesh Kumar said that Binod had been admitted to Manipal Hospital. “He is in critical condition,” Kumar said. The police have launched a manhunt for Mukesh and Manish.
