A container truck lost control and collided with three buses, an SUV, and a two-wheeler killing a bus conductor on the spot and injuring two on a bike on Mysore Road near the Satellite Bus Stand under Byatrayanapura traffic police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Ravichandra (39), a native of Kolar and a KSRTC employee from Kollegal depot. The two injured were a two wheeler rider Shivananda Saraswathi and his pillion Bhagavathi. While Shivananda sustained minor injuries, Bhagavathi sustained fracture in her right leg, said the police. According to police, the 14-wheeled container truck bearing registration number KA-01-D-8610 carrying 35 tonnes of glass, was speeding towards Mysuru from Bengaluru. At around 6:10 am, when the truck reached near the satellite bus stand on Mysore road, its driver Shivakumar R lost control on the vehicle and first rammed into rear of the two-wheeler, after which it collided with a Tata Sumo and then dashed into three buses including that of KSRTC before coming to a halt, police added. KSRTC conductor Ravichandra, was standing outside the bus calling out for passengers and was about to climb the bus when he came between the truck and the bus, the impact crushing him to death on the spot, police said. Ravichandra’s body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for postmortem. The two injured were shifted to a private hospital nearby. “Since it was early in the morning, there were less people at the bus stand thankfully minimising the causalities. If the accident would have occurred a little later, victim count would have increased,” said a senior police officer adding, “If the bus conductor had remained inside his bus, he could have escaped the accident. Byatrayanapura traffic police rushed to the spot and seized the container truck. Driver of the truck, Shivakumar R attempted to escape after the accident fearing public fury, but he was caught by an auto driver who later handed him over to the police. The police have registered a case of accidental death due to negligence and have arrested the driver.
