The accused are identified as Jain Harish Kumar (25) of RPC Layout and Mohammed Moinudden alias Wasim (23) of Padarayanapura. Harish's brother Amith Kumar (21) is the victim. It is suspected that Harish wanted to loot his own father but took the proxy way out of fear. Police said that Harish and Amith are employed in a jewellery shop in the city. Harish hatched a plan to extort money from his uncle Kethan Kumar, who owns a jewellery shop in the city. Harish approached his friend Wasim, an employee at a medical shop to kidnap his own brother. The accused persons are addicted to a lavish life and resorted to kidnapping for ransom to fulfil their greed. They kidnapped Amith from Byatarayanapura area on December 7 and took him to Mysuru and Madikeri area. The duo started calling victim's uncle Kethan Kumar and demanded Rs 5 Crore as ransom. “Kethan Kumar suspects that the abductors had targeted his own children but by mistake kidnapped his nephew. So, he contacted us and complained about the incident. We have taken up a case of kidnap and succeeded in arresting two including the brother of victim,” an investigating officer said. Police said that Harish feared that he may be caught if he made the ransom call to his father and chose to threaten his uncle. “Our investigation zeroed in on Harish since his behaviour was odd. So we took him to custody for questioning and he spilled the beans. We have arrested two persons as of now and we have come to know of the involvement of more people. Further probe is on to arrest the others,” a police officer said.
