The police have detained a 37- year old insurance agent in this regard at Yelahanka in North-East Bengaluru on Thursday. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East division) Vikas Kumar Vikas, the suspect has been identified as R Raja, a resident of Yelahanka New Town and is employed with an insurance firm. According to police, the 19- year-old victim is an undergraduate in a private college and had been to New Golden Amulya, a MRP liquor shop to get some booze at around 1.30 pm on December 6. Raja was also at the shop at that time. Both the victim and the suspect were standing next to each other in a congested of about 2.5 feet dimension. Raja allegedly touched her when he was leaving the shop. When she questioned him it led to an altercation between them. She held his collar in rage and Raja retaliated in a similar fashion. In between he allegedly touched her body with a sexual intent and she posted the incident on her twitter account. The Yelahanka New Town police took up a case of “outraging a woman’s modesty” under the provision of Section 354A of IPC and traced accused Raja with the help of CCTV footage in the shop. “The student alleges that she was sexually harassed by a person at the wine store and the same was tweeted by her. But, during the interrogation the accused claimed that his body braced against her invariably because of the congested space in the shop. Our investigation is also taking account of this scenario. We are interrogating him further and we will arrest him only if it is proven that he actually molested her,” an investigating officer said. Further probe is on.
